Dünya nüfusunun 2025 yılında 8.5 milyara, 2050 yılında ise 9.7 milyara ulaşacağı tahmin edilmektedir. Bahsedilen nüfus artışından kaynaklı gelecekte arazinin daha yoğun kullanılacağı öngörülmektedir.
