Reproduction and population structure of the sea cucumber Holothuria tubulosa in the Dardanelles Strait (Turkey)

MEHMET ÇULHA | HAKKI DERELİ | SANİYE TÜRK ÇULHA

This study investigated Holothuria tubulosa, Gmelin 1791 in the Dardanelles Strait from April 2013 to March 2014, in order to outline the morphological characteristics, reproductive patterns and the relationship between population characteristics and environmental parameters. 15 to 30 individuals of this species were sampled monthly at three stations. There was a negative allometry between length and weight, with gutted weight being the most reliable measurement for this species. The reproductive patterns of the species were identified for the first time for examples from the Turkish coast ...Daha fazlası

Comparison of craniofacial morphology, head posture and hyoid bone position with different breathing patterns

TANCAN UYSAL

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate differences in craniofacial morphology, head posture and hyoid bone position between mouth breathing (MB) and nasal breathing (NB) patients. Methods: Mouth breathing patients comprised 34 skeletal Class I subjects with a mean age of 12.8 ± 1.5 years (range: 12.0–15.2 years). Thirty-two subjects with skeletal Class I relationship were included in the NB group (mean 13.5 ±1.3 years; range: 12.2–14.8 years). Twenty-seven measurements (15 angular and 12 linear) were used for the craniofacial analysis. Additionally, 12 measurements were evalu ...Daha fazlası

Alveolar bone thickness and lower incisor position in skeletal Class I and Class II malocclusions assessed with cone-beam computed tomography

ASLI BAYSAL |

Objective: To evaluate lower incisor position and bony support between patients with Class II average- and high-angle malocclusions and compare with the patients presenting Class I malocclusions. Methods: CBCT records of 79 patients were divided into 2 groups according to sagittal jaw relationships: Class I and II. Each group was further divided into average- and high-angle subgroups. Six angular and 6 linear measurements were performed. Independent samples t-test, Kruskal–Wallis, and Dunn post-hoc tests were performed for statistical comparisons. Results: Labial alveolar bone th ...Daha fazlası

The Effect of Nutriton and Lifestyle on Age-related Macular Degeneration

Age-related macular degeneraton is an eye disease that is one of the biggest causes of blindness worldwide. Age-related macular degeneration is a complex and multifactorial disease. Although there are many risk factors both environmental and genetic such as ethnicity, age, genetics, family history, and oxidativestress, the most effective and modifiable risk factor in preventing age-related macular degeneration is smoking. In addition, the fact that nutrition is a potentially modifiable risk factor suggeststhat it may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration. In many epidemiological ...Daha fazlası

Electron Beam Welding (EBW) of Aerospace Alloy (Inconel 825): Optimization and Modeling of Weld Bead Area

LEVENT AYDIN

This study investigates the optimum weld area on a popular aerospace alloy (i.e., Inconel 825) made by the electron beam welding technique. Welding speed (S), beam current (I), accelerating voltage (V), and beam oscillation (O) are considered as process parameters to study the weld bead area (WA) of the weldments. An instructive study on multiple non-linear neural regression analyses has been done as a basic introduction to neuro regression modeling with artificial neural network (ANN) philosophy. To do this, the experimental prediction has been modeled with 14 predictive functional structures ...Daha fazlası

Low-shrinking composites. Are they reliable for bonding orthodontic retainers?

TANCAN UYSAL

To evaluate the shear bond strength (SBS), fracture mode, wire pull out (WPO) resistance and microleakage between low-shrinking and conventional composites used as a lingual retainer adhesive. Methods: A total of 120 human mandibular incisor teeth, extracted for periodontal reasons, were collected. Sixty of them were separated into two groups. To determine the SBS, either Transbond-LR (3M-Unitek) or Silorane (3M-Espe) was applied to the lingual surface of the teeth by packing the material into standard cylindrical plastic matrices (Ultradent) to simulate the lingual retainer bonding area. Heavy Metal Accummulation in Muscles and Total Bodies of Mullus barbatus, Trachurus trachurus and Engraulis encrasicolus Captured from the Coast of Sinop, Black Sea

SANİYE TÜRK ÇULHA | MEHMET ÇULHA

The levels of heavy metals viz., Cd, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, Zn and Al were determined by ICP-AES in the muscles and total bodies of Mullus barbatus (Linnaeus 1758), Trachurus trachurus (Linnaeus 1758), Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus 1758) captured from the coast of Sinop. The order of the levels of the heavy metals in the total fish samples was Fe > Zn > Al > Pb > Cu > Ni > Cd, whereas in the muscles, the order was Zn > Fe > Cu > Al > Pb > Ni > Cd. The experiment results are discussed by comparison with literature values.

Evaluation of root resorption following rapid maxillary expansion using cone-beam computed tomography

ASLI BAYSAL | MEHMET İRFAN KARADEDE | İLKNUR VELİ

Objective: To evaluate the root resorption after rapid maxillary expansion (RME) via cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: Records of 25 patients who had undergone RME with tooth-borne banded expander were obtained from the archive of the orthodontic department. CBCT data were reconstructed with surface and volume rendering, and the volumetric images were manipulated to display the root surfaces from various orientations. On these three-dimensional images, permanent first molars and first and second premolars were segmented, and their roots were isolated. Volumes ...Daha fazlası
