Measurements from conventional, digital and CT-derived cephalograms: a comparative study

ASLI BAYSAL

Objective: The purpose of this retrospective radiographic study was to determine the reliability and reproducibility of skeletal and dental measurements of lateral cephalograms created from a computerised tomography (CT) scan compared with conventional and digital lateral cephalograms. Methods: CT and conventional lateral cephalograms of the same patients were obtained from university archives. The lateral cephalometric radiographs of 30 patients were manually traced. The radiographs were subsequently scanned and traced using Dolphin Imaging software version 11 (Dolphin Imaging, Chatswort ...Daha fazlası

Do enamel microabrasion and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate affect shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to a demineralized enamel surface?

ASLI BAYSAL |

Objective: To evaluate and compare the effects of enamel microabrasion, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), and their combination on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to demineralized enamel surface. Materials and Methods: One hundred human first premolar teeth were randomly allocated to one of five groups. Group I was considered as the control of other groups. For the remaining groups, demineralization was performed via solutions. In group II, brackets were directly bonded to the demineralized enamel surface. CPP-ACP was applied in group ...Daha fazlası

Dentoskeletal effects of Twin Block and Herbst appliances in patients with Class II division 1 mandibular retrognathy

ASLI BAYSAL

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate dentoskeletal effects of Herbst and Twin Block (TB) appliance therapies in Skeletal Class II malocclusion. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Herbst group consisted of 11 girls and 9 boys (mean age = 12.74±1.43 years), TB group comprised of 10 girls and 10 boys (mean age = 13.0±1.32 years), and control group included 9 girls and 11 boys (mean age = 12.17±1.47 years). Mean treatment/observation times were 15.81±5.96 months for Herbst, 16.20±7.54 months for TB, and 15.58±3.13 months for control group. Pre-treatment (T0) and post-treatment (T1) lateral cephal ...Daha fazlası

Relationship between odontogenic bacteremia and orthodontic stripping

TANCAN UYSAL

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of bacteremia associated with an orthodontic stripping procedure. Methods: The study included 29 orthodontic patients (mean age, 18.2 6 3.4 years). We used a standardized stripping procedure: a perforated stripping disk with a contra-angle hand piece was used at a low speed (\15,000 rpm; 10 seconds) on the mandibular anterior teeth. Blood samples were collected by inserting a cannula into the left antecubital fossa. A baseline sample was taken before treatment, and a second sample was taken after the stripping procedure. العلاقات النَّسقيَّة والعلاقات الجدوليَّة

The purpose of this study is to investigate the topic of mathematical and spatial relationships, to clarify what linguistics has provided in this field, and to identify these relationships in the process of linguistic creation, and to determine the function of language, following this descriptive and analytical approach. It is noteworthy that these two terms are modern, but we do not mention the concept in the books of our ancient scholars; They talked about various techniques that may affect the formal and semantic enrichment of the patterns of linguistic formation, including: Deletion, Metap ...Daha fazlası

Mandibular anterior bony support and incisor crowding: Is there a relationship?

İLKNUR VELİ

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to test the null hypothesis that increased irregularity of the mandibular incisors is associated with a reduction in the alveolar support on cone-beam computed tomographic sections. METHODS: From a sample of 1100 digital volumetric tomographs, 125 tomographs of subjects with Class I malocclusion (mean age, 21.6 ± 4.8 years) were selected for this study. An irregularity index was used to categorize these tomographs as having mild, moderate, or severe crowding. All tomographs were taken by using an iCAT (Imaging Sciences International, Hatfield, Pa) ima ...Daha fazlası

Heavy metals in Mytilus galloprovincialis, suspended particulate matter and sediment from offshore submerged longline system, Black Sea

SANİYE TÜRK ÇULHA

The study was performed between March 2009 and March 2010 at the Sinop Inner Harbor on cultured mussels at the offshore submerged longline system. The samples of mussels, sediment and suspended particulate matter were seasonally taken for the purpose of monitoring differences of metal contents. In addition, burnable organic matter, contamination factors (CF), pollution load index (PLI) in sediment samples, meat yield of mussels were seasonally determined. All metals in suspended particulate matter were found to be above the national limit. Cd concentration in sediment was above the l ...Daha fazlası

The Malnutrition Risk and Physical Activities in Home-Dwelling Older Adults During the COVID-19: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: During the COVID-19 pandemic, elderly adults’ nutritional habits, physical activity levels and the levels of malnutrition were affected. This study investigated the prevalence of malnutrition and physical fitness and exercise activity levels in home dwelling elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted with a face-to-face questionnaire on 670 (male: 241, female: 429) home-dwelling older adults with a mean age of 70.66±5.83 years. The nutritional screening and evaluation were performed using Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), and ...Daha fazlası

Effect of LED-mediatedphotobiomodulation therapy on orthodontic tooth movement and root resorption in rats

TANCAN UYSAL

The aim of this experimental study was to evaluate the effects of light-emitting diode-mediated-photobiomodulation therapy (LPT), on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement (TM) and orthodontically induced root resorption, in rats. Twentymale 12-week-oldWistar rats were separated into two groups (control and LPT) and 50 cN of force was applied between maxillary left molar and incisor with a coil spring. In the treatment group, LPT was applied with an energy density of 20 mW/cm2 over a period of 10 consecutive days directly over the movement of the first molar teeth area. The distance b ...Daha fazlası

Evaluation of alveolar bone loss following rapid maxillary expansion using cone-beam computed tomography

ASLI BAYSAL | İLKNUR VELİ | MEHMET İRFAN KARADEDE

Objective: To evaluate the changes in cortical bone thickness, alveolar bone height, and the incidence of dehiscence and fenestration in the surrounding alveolar bone of posterior teeth after rapid maxillary expansion (RME) treatment using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: The CBCT records of 20 subjects (9 boys, mean age: 13.97 ± 1.17 years; 11 girls, mean age: 13.53 ± 2.12 year) that underwent RME were selected from the archives. CBCT scans had been taken before (T1) and after (T2) the RME. Moreover, 10 of the subjects had 6-month retention (T3) records. We used th ...Daha fazlası

Thyroid Functions in Children with Cerebral Palsy and Effects of Phénobarbital on Thyroid Hormones

GALİP AKHAN

Thyroid function tests were performed on 44 patients with cerebral palsy (CP) and on 35 healthy children as the control group. In the panent group total triiodothyronin (TT3), total thyroxine (TT4), free triiodothyronin (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were found in wholly normal ranges. These values have shown no significant difference with respect to those of die control group (p>0.05). It was snüdng that -13 %, 41 % and 55 % of the padents were under 3 percentile according to length, weight and head circumference respectively. Thyroid funcdon tests of ...Daha fazlası
