Effect of resveratrol on bone formation in the expanded inter-premaxillary suture: early bone changes

TANCAN UYSAL

Objective –The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of local resveratrol (RSVL) administration on bone formation in response to expansion of the interpremaxillary suture, in rats. Material and Methods – Twenty 50- to 60-day-old male Wistar rats were separated into two equal groups. Both groups were subjected to expansion, and 30 cN of force was applied to the maxillary incisors with helical-spring. Twenty-four hours after appliance placement, single-dose 10 lmol ⁄ kg RSVL in the dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) was injected to the inter-premaxillary suture in the experimental group. In ...Daha fazlası

OPG and RANKL levels around miniscrew implants during orthodontic tooth movement

İLKNUR VELİ | ŞÜKRÜ ENHOŞ

Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the peri-miniscrew implant crevicular fluid receptor activator of nuclear factor-lB ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) levels around loaded and unloaded miniscrew implants at different time intervals. Methods: Twenty loaded and 16 unloaded miniscrew implants were included in this study. All miniscrew implants were placed bilaterally between the maxillary second premolars and first molars as anchorage units for canine distalization. Peri-miniscrew implant crevicular fluid was taken from the mesiobuccal aspects of the loaded and unl ...Daha fazlası

Relationship between odontogenic bacteremia and orthodontic stripping

TANCAN UYSAL

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of bacteremia associated with an orthodontic stripping procedure. Methods: The study included 29 orthodontic patients (mean age, 18.2 6 3.4 years). We used a standardized stripping procedure: a perforated stripping disk with a contra-angle hand piece was used at a low speed (\15,000 rpm; 10 seconds) on the mandibular anterior teeth. Blood samples were collected by inserting a cannula into the left antecubital fossa. A baseline sample was taken before treatment, and a second sample was taken after the stripping procedure. An In Vitro Comparison of Different Diagnostic Methods in Detection of Residual Dentinal Caries

EBRU KÜÇÜKYILMAZ

The aim of this study was to investigate the efficiency of different diagnostic methods in detection of residual dentinal caries in excavated cavities. Fifty extracted molar with deep dentinal carious lesions were excavated using a slow-speed handpiece. All cavities were assessed by laser fluorescence(LF) device, electronic caries monitor(ECM), and caries detector dye(CDD) by three independent observers blindly. The measurements were repeated after two weeks. Specimens containing dentin slices 150 μm in thickness were prepared for histological analyses. The existence and absence of car ...Daha fazlası

Mandibular anterior bony support and incisor crowding: Is there a relationship?

İLKNUR VELİ

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to test the null hypothesis that increased irregularity of the mandibular incisors is associated with a reduction in the alveolar support on cone-beam computed tomographic sections. METHODS: From a sample of 1100 digital volumetric tomographs, 125 tomographs of subjects with Class I malocclusion (mean age, 21.6 ± 4.8 years) were selected for this study. An irregularity index was used to categorize these tomographs as having mild, moderate, or severe crowding. All tomographs were taken by using an iCAT (Imaging Sciences International, Hatfield, Pa) ima ...Daha fazlası

Alveolar bone thickness and lower incisor position in skeletal Class I and Class II malocclusions assessed with cone-beam computed tomography

ASLI BAYSAL |

Objective: To evaluate lower incisor position and bony support between patients with Class II average- and high-angle malocclusions and compare with the patients presenting Class I malocclusions. Methods: CBCT records of 79 patients were divided into 2 groups according to sagittal jaw relationships: Class I and II. Each group was further divided into average- and high-angle subgroups. Six angular and 6 linear measurements were performed. Independent samples t-test, Kruskal–Wallis, and Dunn post-hoc tests were performed for statistical comparisons. Results: Labial alveolar bone th ...Daha fazlası

Ethnic differences in dentofacial relationships of Turkish and Saudi young adults with normal occlusions and well-balanced faces

TANCAN UYSAL

Objectives: The aims of the present study were (1) to determine ethnic differences in craniofacial dimensions between Turkish and Saudi populations and (2) to identify possible gender differences between males and females, based on a sample of untreated young adult subjects with normal occlusions and well-balanced faces. Methods: In total, 163 cephalometric radiographs were traced and evaluated to compare untreated adults of Turkish and Saudi ethnicity. The Turkish group comprised 86 subjects; 45 females and 41 males. The Saudi group comprised 77 subjects; 39 females and 38 males. For st ...Daha fazlası

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a connective tissue disease that has effect on the structure and function of collagen. Collagen is a fibrous protein that is one of the main building structures of connective tissues such as skin, tendon, bone and cartilage. Connective tissue requires all type of collagen to function correctly. People with EDS may show symptoms such as skin hyperelasticity, joint hypermobility, increased tendency to bruise and abnormal scarring. Dental findings have been reported with some types of EDS. This case report describes the dental findings of a patient (10, c?) who ...Daha fazlası

The human body consists of different systems which include the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, the musculoskeletal system, etc. Each system performs some kind of vital task and carries on many physiological processes. For example, the primary functions of the musculoskeletal system can be summarized as generating forces, producing motion, moving substance within the body, providing stabilization, and generating heat. Physiological processes are multifaceted fact and most of them manifest themselves as signals that reflect their nature and activities. These types of signals may be ho ...Daha fazlası

Do enamel microabrasion and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate affect shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to a demineralized enamel surface?

ASLI BAYSAL |

Objective: To evaluate and compare the effects of enamel microabrasion, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), and their combination on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to demineralized enamel surface. Materials and Methods: One hundred human first premolar teeth were randomly allocated to one of five groups. Group I was considered as the control of other groups. For the remaining groups, demineralization was performed via solutions. In group II, brackets were directly bonded to the demineralized enamel surface. CPP-ACP was applied in group ...Daha fazlası

Evaluation of root resorption following rapid maxillary expansion using cone-beam computed tomography

ASLI BAYSAL | MEHMET İRFAN KARADEDE | İLKNUR VELİ

Objective: To evaluate the root resorption after rapid maxillary expansion (RME) via cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: Records of 25 patients who had undergone RME with tooth-borne banded expander were obtained from the archive of the orthodontic department. CBCT data were reconstructed with surface and volume rendering, and the volumetric images were manipulated to display the root surfaces from various orientations. On these three-dimensional images, permanent first molars and first and second premolars were segmented, and their roots were isolated. Volumes ...Daha fazlası
