Ethnic differences in the soft tissue profiles of Turkish and European–American young adults with normal occlusions and well-balanced faces

ASLI BAYSAL | TANCAN UYSAL

The aim of this study was to evaluate soft tissue differences between Turkish and North American adults by comparing two sample populations with ideal occlusion and well-balanced faces. Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 117 Anatolian Turkish adults (65 female and 52 male, mean age: 23.9 ± 2.8 years) were compared with a sample of 116 adults of European–American ancestry (64 female and 52 male, mean age: 25.0 ± 6.8 years). The cephalometric analyses of Holdaway, Epker, and Legan and Burstone were performed using Dolphin Image Software 9.0. Thirty-two measurements (27 linear and 5 angular) we ...Daha fazlası

Ethnic differences in dentofacial relationships of Turkish and Saudi young adults with normal occlusions and well-balanced faces

TANCAN UYSAL

Objectives: The aims of the present study were (1) to determine ethnic differences in craniofacial dimensions between Turkish and Saudi populations and (2) to identify possible gender differences between males and females, based on a sample of untreated young adult subjects with normal occlusions and well-balanced faces. Methods: In total, 163 cephalometric radiographs were traced and evaluated to compare untreated adults of Turkish and Saudi ethnicity. The Turkish group comprised 86 subjects; 45 females and 41 males. The Saudi group comprised 77 subjects; 39 females and 38 males. For st ...Daha fazlası

Effects of demineralizaton-inhibition procedures on the bond strength of brackets bonded to demineralized enamel surface

TANCAN UYSAL

Objective: To study and compare the effects of different demineralizationinhibition methods on the shear bond strength (SBS) and fracture mode of an adhesive used to bond orthodontic brackets to demineralized enamel surfaces. Methods: Eighty freshly extracted, human maxillary premolars were divided into 4 equal groups and demineralized over the course of 21 days. Brackets were bonded to the demineralized enamel of teeth in Group 1. In Group 2, bonding was performed following resin infi ltration (ICON®, DMG, Hamburg, Germany). Before bonding, pre-treatment with acidulated phosphate fluor ...Daha fazlası

Evaluation of root resorption following rapid maxillary expansion using cone-beam computed tomography

ASLI BAYSAL | MEHMET İRFAN KARADEDE | İLKNUR VELİ

Objective: To evaluate the root resorption after rapid maxillary expansion (RME) via cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: Records of 25 patients who had undergone RME with tooth-borne banded expander were obtained from the archive of the orthodontic department. CBCT data were reconstructed with surface and volume rendering, and the volumetric images were manipulated to display the root surfaces from various orientations. On these three-dimensional images, permanent first molars and first and second premolars were segmented, and their roots were isolated. Volumes ...Daha fazlası

Influence of soft drinks on dental enamel: An in vitro study

EBRU KÜÇÜKYILMAZ | | | |

This in vitro study was to evaluate the erosive potential of four soft drinks at different times on bovine teeth by profilometry. Bovine incisors buccal side was sectioned with a diamond saw and a total of 100 enamel blocks were prepared (8 × 4 × 0.5 mm). Five specimens each were exposed to 60 ml of soft drinks (Sprite, Coca Cola, Cappy-orange and Ayran) for 15, 30, 60, 120 and 180 minutes in a continuously vibrating soft drinks bath in a beaker at room temperature. Surface loss of the specimens was determined with a profilometry. The data were analyzed by two-way analysis of variance and Tuke ...Daha fazlası

Dentoskeletal effects of Twin Block and Herbst appliances in patients with Class II division 1 mandibular retrognathy

ASLI BAYSAL

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate dentoskeletal effects of Herbst and Twin Block (TB) appliance therapies in Skeletal Class II malocclusion. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Herbst group consisted of 11 girls and 9 boys (mean age = 12.74±1.43 years), TB group comprised of 10 girls and 10 boys (mean age = 13.0±1.32 years), and control group included 9 girls and 11 boys (mean age = 12.17±1.47 years). Mean treatment/observation times were 15.81±5.96 months for Herbst, 16.20±7.54 months for TB, and 15.58±3.13 months for control group. Pre-treatment (T0) and post-treatment (T1) lateral cephal ...Daha fazlası
