Summary:The active involvement of women in political representation mechanisms enables advocacy of women's rights in social life, and thus women's political representation paves the way for women's empowerment in various fields. It is a critical question to analyze, at this point, which social, economic and demographic background becomes more influential in terms of participation of women in politics in Turkey. This study aims to explore the eight legislative periods in between 1996 and 2018 (20th-27th Legislative Periods) in the Grand National Assembly in Turkey. In this context, the goal is to demonstrate the economic, sociological and demographic profiles of women parliamentarians in the periods in question. This master thesis evaluates the female parliamentarian elites in terms of their age, education, profession, foreign language level, marital status, number of children, education status of their spouse, and their experience of bureaucracy. As a result of this study, it was concluded that the majority of the female elite in the parliament between the 20th and 27th Legislative Periods, is young, graduated, married, having at least one foreign language, educator or lawyer, married with graduated spouses, and having experiences in parliament institution, but not experienced in bureaucracy.
